The chances are you have probably come across April’s beautifully curated Instagram, @coffeewithme & if you haven’t you must check her out. Her feed is delicate, refined & beautiful, it will leave you feeling two things…inspired & craving coffee.
We had the pleasure of meeting April when she was down in Melbourne, she was refreshingly down to earth. We sipped on coffee at one of our favourite Brunswick cafés, East Elevation & chatted about all things homewares.
What are your do’s and don’t when taking photos for Instagram?
(1) Natural light and yes, I always say this!
(2) Capture mood, I find this in the form of shadows, the nervous flick of my hair during outfit photos and even just movement.
(3) Be considerate of others and take into account your surroundings when taking photos in public
places such as cafes.
Don’t – Over edit your photos!
Here at Art Club we believe that Fashion is a way of saying who you are without having
to speak. Now, more than ever, the home has become a further extension of this – a
means to represent personal identity and style; a point of expression and creativity,
what is it that excites you about homewares?
I think you have summed it up perfectly in the preamble of your question. Homewares excite
me because the pieces I choose are representative of my individuality and aesthetics.
Do you have a favourite Art Club piece?
The decks! I have always wanted to skate and find it awesome how Art Club has fused form
with function. I also love how the deck will be a piece that shows through the wears and tears
the memories of adventures.
What do you like to do to wind down?
To watch the AFL! It is probably not the best way to relax and ‘wind down’ as I become quite
passionate and nervous when watching my team play.
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world alive or dead who would it be?
It would be my dream to collaborate with Alice Gao. From what I see and read on her
Instagram and blog, her attitude is so refreshing. I’m also inspired by her content and
photography skills as I always remember a post she wrote about learning to use the flash (as
sometimes there is no natural light!) and the stunning photos from it.
Quote to live by?
I can’t think of one right now even though I do love reading quotes. Therefore, it’s probably a
sign that I strive to live with an overall life of no regrets rather then a treasured quote.
