A lot of us can relate to the beauty that is Scandinavian design. Simple, clean, stylish – it’s how most of us would describe ourselves on a good day, and this is currently one of the most highly sought out design styles for an interior space.
If you’re on a budget, there are ways to draw inspiration from this simplistic and beautiful design, with the following elements reflecting the very essence of Scandi style…
MUTED COLOUR TONES
This doesn’t have to mean the harsh, monochromatic tones of black, white and grey. Try going for neutral beiges, and creams for a warmer effect.
LET THERE BE LIGHT
Scandinavian style relies heavily on the use of light. Light walls, light floors. This includes the use of white and wooden elements. Perfect for the dreary winter months ahead of us, the light brings back much-needed warmth into our lives.
To go with the light elements of the space, throw in a mixture of rugs, cushions, chair throws and even plants. You don’t want the room to be cold and boring, these small elements will give the room a more modern feel.
Keep the décor simple, and keep it to a minimum – doesn’t get much simpler than that!
Incorporate wood pieces wherever you can. If you’re not lucky enough to be graced with hardwood floors, head for alternative ways to add some wooden objects to the room. Try frames, storage boxes, shelves etc.
A lot of people can’t just start on a blank canvas, so opt for smaller considerations when transforming your space. Cushions are a good place to start, along with chairs and carpets or rugs, and storage solutions such as shelves and book cases.
