It happens to us all, a hot new interior trend comes around & we've just gotta have it ! But now that 2017 has arrived it's time to review some of the things we loved in 2016 and go our separate ways....
It's true, marble is a timeless, however, there is such a thing as marble OD. 2016 saw marble printed on absolutely everything you could imagine - Marble toothbrush? Sure ! Marble bed covers, why not?! Marble plates...marble wallpaper.....now we're losing our marbles ! It all got a bit much ! The reality of the matter is, too much marble in your home can look amateur and feel cold. Marble works best on kitchen and bathroom bench tops or as a feature coffee table. Little bursts of marble in the form of ornamental accessories is a gorgeous addition too. Remember to introduce other textures too, think blonde timbers, ceramics and leather, don't be afraid to warm things up a little.
“The copper craze is officially over, it’s time to embrace a new metallic finish,” advises Rebecca Johnson, interior stylist and owner of Bird Lifestyle in Perth. “Once seasonal trends hit chain homeware stores, it is a clear indication that the trend has gone mainstream and is on its way out.” But don't be alarmed, we love metallics here at Art Club, instead go with timeless metallics such as golds, rose golds & silvers.
3. Crosses & Skulls
Unfortunately these have been done over & over & over again, time to cull the skulls. The exception to the crosses is a beautiful boho cross that is unique in it's detail. Jump on etsy or your local thrift store to source one or if you're feeling creative, personalise your own one.
5. Cushions with logos...
We're talking about the 'Keep Calm...' ones and as we're sure you can assume, we're not the biggest fans. In our books they're a big no; no. Designer cushions in the lounge area or bedroom have the power to make a big impact on how that space not only looks but feels. We believe in taking the time to pick statement and complimentary cushions that are unique and reflect your own personal style.
So there you have it, stay away from the above and your homes are in the style safe zone.
